Vatican + Ancient Rome = ❤️

Got an early start today at The Vatican. The Roman Gods must have been watching out for us today because we could not have asked for more perfect weather. Blue skies, just like Michelangelo would have painted! We had a lovely tour guide who was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. She managed to make every detail fascinating. We started in the Vatican Museums, seeing all of Michelangelo and Raphael's masterpieces, before walking through the Sistene Chapel and St. Peter's basilica. Before leaving we got to see the changing of the Swiss guards which was fantastico!
We had a quick lunch at L'Insalatta Ricca, near The Vatican (thanks Ali for all of the great restaurant recs!)
Next we walked down the Tiber river across Ponte Sisto and across to Ancient Rome. It was a gorgeous day in Rome! We toured the Colosseum just as the sun was setting which was amazing. Tomorrow we go back to tour Palatine Hill and The Forum! The only bad news is that I seem to have come down with bronchitis or some sort of really nasty bug which is wiping me out a bit but Vin picked up delicious food to go and we are enjoying a yummy dinner in our amaaaaazing hotel room, so it's a cozy night in while I take Italian medicine from the farmacia! REALLY hoping I feel much better tomorrow!! Loving Rome so much! (I'm sorry my posts are a little lackluster, hopefully will have more energy tomorrow!) love, L&V
